Spider-Man – Marvel Legends Vulture Wave

Back with the next Spider-Man. Yesterday we took a look at the homemade suit Spider-Man. Today we will take a look at the suit that Tony Stark gave to Peter Parker.

I am not a fan of the wings. They fall off too easily, and they are too short in width to allow SM to fly.

This figure is similar, but not the same as the Spider-Man we got in the Civil War 3-pack back when Civil War came out. This suit has more texture on the suit, and the paint apps are actually better.

He comes equipped with the web wings that we saw from the very first trailer with Spider-Man flying over a helicopter. And in the movie, that scene was even better with all of the context behind it.

He comes with two sets of hands, which is pretty typical for Spider-Man. One set of fists, and one set of web-flinging hands.

This version of Spider-Man has a lot more articulation than the Homemade Suit version. He has the super-jointed shoulders that allow for some very dynamic poses.

In addition, he has an alternate head that has squinty eyes. His eyes in the movie were a character of their own. I really think they took a cue from Deadpool and allowed Spider-Man to wear his mask much more and let his eyes do a lot of the talking. Very well done. If you want an unmasked version, you have to go hunt down the Spider-Man/Iron Man 2-pack to get Tom Holland’s head.

Comparing the two Spider-Men for the movie, they are very similar in height…which is what we would want. It is funny how the optical illusion of the two figures alone make the Homemade suit version look smaller.

Well, we are two figures in, and we are already almost done with the movie figures. Next up, we have a run of comic figures. Some are good, some are so-so, and one is absolutely terrible, not to mention it is missing a part. Until later…

Spider-Man (Homecoming Homemade Suit) – Marvel Legends Vulture Wave

It seems like Hasbro really has their stuff together. Waves are coming out as fast as we can find them. Finding them is the hard part sometimes. This wave I found across my 11-state road trip.

This is our first figure, and rightfully so, it is how Tony Stark found Peter in the first place. A kid running around in a hoodie and mask.

This wave is the “Vulture Wave” as you buy the parts to build Vulture’s wings from the Homecoming movie. That is a first for the Marvel Legends line. We have had many many many Build-a-Figures, but this is the first Build-an-accessory. That being said, we are talking about a set of wings that are an awe-inspiring 23 inches wide. When we are talking about 1 inch equaling 1 foot, that is a HUGE wingspan. I take pictures of my Marvel Legends on a 2 foot square diorama. I cannot even get all of the wings in the picture. That is a crazy big set of wings. But we will be getting to him. You will notice as we go along with the figures, that the wing pieces will begin to show up in the background. Each character comes with a piece. Seven figures, seven pieces.

Let’s take a look at Spider-Man, or as Tony Stark would call it, Spider-Man Mark I. When we first caught up with Spider-Man in Civil War, he was running around in this outfit. He stated that the goggles helped him to focus his senses since they were heightened and going crazy in a fight. He comes with a set of fists and his hood is down.

Spider-Man comes with a second set of hands that are web-slinging hands. They are in more of a natural pose for how a person actually does the web hands as opposed to the comics where Peter has exaggerated finger posing.

He also comes with a second hood, so he can have his hood up. Is this inspired by Spider-Gwen? Maybe. I noticed a few times in the film that he had his hood up, but generally in a fight situation the hood was down. Better to see, and no real way of keeping it on. I am glad we got two variations.

This is a great first figure for the wave. Since this is the Vulture Wave, you know Vulture is coming. We will also be looking at a new suit Spider-Man. And that is all. We do not get anyone else from the movie. Boo! This would have been a great time to get a few more movie figures in regular clothes. Shocker anyone? The rest of the wave is made up of comic characters. And believe it or not, since it is a Spider-Man wave, we will be getting 3 Spider-Men this time around. About typical with each Spider Wave.

Shocker and Sandman (BAF) – Marvel Legends (Sandman Wave)

We are finishing off our look at the Sandman With the last two figures: Shocker and of course the Build-a-Figure of Sandman.

Shocker:
This is a surprise hit for me. I was not expecting a lot from this guy. I had expected one last cheap rogue from the Spider-Verse, but he is quite good.

We start with the basic buck for the body, but there is added detail to the arms, with the metallic gauntlets. He also has a set of knee pads, that we do not often see on many of the Marvel Legends figures. I would like to have seen them match the color of the gauntlets, but I can see they should be made from a fabric or something, rather than the metal.

I am impressed with the crosshatch work that went into the paint. There is a whole lot of work that went into that detail. They do it so much for all of the Spider-Men, so it is nice to see them go into the detail with a bad guy as well.

 

He comes with the, now very used, wrist power. We have seen this on lots and lots of figures recently. This is the first time with this color scheme.

Sandman:

The big bad guy. You knew this guy would make an appearance sooner or later. The only other Sandman that we have ever had in Marvel Legends was way back in 2007 with a Spider-Man Film Trilogy themed set. We are two movie Spider-Men past that, so it is about time we get a real comic version. And boy do we.

He comes angry and angrier. Two head sculpts. There is the mad version, and then there is the extra mad version where his head is messed up.

Along with that, he comes with two sets of arms that can be changed out. One set consists of two hands, one in a fist, and one grasping. The playability is high with this one. The other two hands are a mace and a block hammer.

Now it is time to culminate this wave in a battle! Spider-Verse against the Rogues.

Spider-Man (Black Costume), and The Jackal – Marvel Legends (Sandman Wave)

We are continuing our look at the Sandman Wave of Marvel Legends. Over halfway done with this wave, so let’s not delay any longer.

Spider-Man (Black Costume):

Ah yes, a fan favorite. The Black Suit Spider-Man. Could this be when he was wearing the Venom Symbiote? Could be, but I am guessing not. We have had a lot of versions of Spider-Man so far, and this is yet another of the great suits. Besides his standard blue and red suit, this may come in second. Originally Black Cat gave him a copy of the Venom outfit (this time made of fabric). She thought it was very sexy. So of course Peter wore it. There were a few times it came out of retirement over the years. Each time was a troubling time for Peter, and it was reflected in the suit.

This is a very standard Spider-Man body. Once again relying on the paint to carry the naked buck with a new head. He has all of the great Spider-Man articulation that we know and love.

That is it for the Spider-Men for this wave. Three out of eight figures is enough I think. There are plenty more costumes we could see in the future. My hopes are on The Amazing Bag-Man where Peter wears a Fantastic 4 costume with a paper bag over his head. And of course a proper 6 inch Iron Spider.

The Jackal:

The Jackal!?!? Who the *bleep* is The Jackal. Oh yeah, another crazy scientist that Peter has enraged somehow or another. This guy came around after Gwen Stacy died at the hands of Green Goblin. See there, a double tie in to both Spider-Man AND Green Goblin in one wave. It wasn’t bad enough that Peter blamed himself for the death of Gwen, but now there is a crazy guy that wants to make a Gwen Clone. In the midst of all of the mess-ups and failed experiments, he created Ben Reilly (the Scarlet Spider). Yay! Scarlet Spider reference. I don’t care what people say, I was riveted to the Clone Saga.

This Jackal is one freakish looking dude. Scantily clad in a pair of blue underwear, he is hairy all over. They did such a good job covering him with texture. He only has some dark paint on his chest, but the sculpting is so nicely done that it looks like there are many colors all over the body.

He has some fantastic musculature, especially on his back. He is a creepy addition to to this lineup. I am sure he is nobody’s favorite bad guy, but he sure does bring something different to the display shelf.

Spider-UK and Ms. Marvel – Marvel Legends (Sandman Series)

Spider-UK:

Spider-UK, where things in the Spider-Verse take a strange turn. So, of you know your history, back in the 80s, Excalibur was a fantastically crazy comic. For my followers, you know that was the one that started it all for me. Well, there was a guy named Captain Britain. He was like Captain America, but even more muscular. Well, the same is happening with Spider-UK. He is like Spider-Man, but a lot stronger.

From a different Earth (833) William “Billy” Braddock (note the name is almost the same as that of Brain Braddock (Earth-616’s Captain Britain), and is a mix of Captain B, and Spider-Man. The multiverse has allowed Spider-People to come out of the woodwork, and that is fine with me.

It is nice to see a buffed-up version of Spider-Man. He does not have quite the articulation of the thinner Spider-Men, but that is to be expected. You get more muscle, you lose some of your motion. That is just life, and it is reflected in the toys too.

The design of Spider-UK is great. I can see why he was added to the Spider-Verse. Take the standard red, white, and blue of Spider-Man, and add the design of the Union Jack, which also happens to be red, white, and blue. There you have all the makings for a new Spider-Man. Add in a sad story (his universe has been destroyed), and you have your next Spider-Man to join the ranks.

Ms. Marvel:

Let’s move away from our Spider-Man for a minute and take a look at Ms. Marvel. Hey, that isn’t Carol Danvers! Nope, Carol has moved on to become Captain Marvel, so that left the mantle of Ms. Marvel open for a new recruit. That is where Kamala Khan comes in. She gained the powers of being a polymorph, where she can take on any shape. Think Reed Richards of the Fantastic 4.

Kamala is a Pakistani-American, and takes to wearing clothing that is appropriate for her culture. The suit is made of a Biokinetic Polymer which becomes very malleable, allowing it to change with her.

The figure is a short buck with thin appendages, just like Kamala. There was a lot of work that went into making this whole new outfit, and it paid off. She looks great. She wears the red and blue of Ms. Marvel, with the added lightning bolt of gold that she wore in her later black outfit.

She comes with two extra body parts. Elongated and exaggerated arms and hands. In her regular form, she has two fist hands. When switched out for the bigger hands, she has one fist, and one open hand. That allows to an added bit of playability. And being that she comes in the Sandman wave, she will need some bigger appendages, since you know Sandman can get pretty big himself.

Oof, poor Goblin. He just can’t catch a break in this wave. Seems that everyone wants a piece of him.

Two more characters in the wave down, and we have reached the halfway point of this wave. Spider-UK is a nice new touch to the ever growing Spider-Verse, and Ms. Marvel is a unique character all her own.
