Falcon – Marvel Legends (Captain America: Civil War) – Walmart Exclusive

I felt really lucky to find this Walmart exclusive version of Sam Wilson, Falcon. It was not easy to get. I HATE Walmart exclusives. I do not have many Walmarts around me, and they are terrible wastelands of no toys. Empty shelves and pegs galore. Usually I have better luck on road trips elsewhere.
This figure was no different.

This is Sam Wilson in his flight suit from Captain America: Civil War. He was awesome in the movie, with all of his great aerobatics and acrobatics when fighting.

The biggest problem I had with this figure was opening him after I already put Vulture’s wings together. There is no articulation in this set of wings, so it was a bit of a letdown. That being said, this is a good figure.

He has standard articulation. A bit less movement with the movie figures than the comic counterparts. Generally the clothing gets in the way.

Sam comes with the backpack in place. A closed up Redwing fits in the top of the backpack.

The wings attach with two posts (top and bottom). They do not stay very tightly in place, so that messes with the playability a bit.

He has grasping hands, ready to shoot someone, but he did not come with any weapons. He is all about cool guns, right after even cooler wings. He needs something.

In addition to the closed up version of Redwing, Sam also comes with a flying version. A nice addition.

Overall this is a good figure. It helps to fill out Cap’s team of Avengers. Up next, the other Walmart Exclusive…

Vulture and Build-an-Accessory – Marvel Legends (Vulture Series)

Oh what fun. We start with the 7th figure of the wave, and give him wings to fly. I could not have asked for a better ending to the series than this.

We start with the Spider-Man: Homecoming movie version of Vulture. He is a super detailed figure. As we have seen, Hasbro goes above and beyond (for the most part) with their movie figures in the MCU. This one is no different. He has an amazing helmet with the creepy green eyes behind the visor. His suit is right out of the movie, from the furred jacket, to the harness.

He has good articulation. Not as great at Spider-Man, but then again, not many figures do. He is not a spring chicken anyway, so we would not expect Vulture to be too articulated, just enough to match a human.

He comes with the final piece (or first piece, depending on which figure you open first) of Vulture’s wings. This is the engine and wing attachment point. It is equally well detailed, and the paint is great. Compared to the two-tone paint on the rest of the wings, I was surprised by the extra touches. Nicely done.

There are no directions that come with Vulture for how to put the wings together. It takes a bit of flipping the pieces around in your hands, and look for the right and left indicators on the wings to know which side each part goes to. All together, we are talking a 23 inch wingspan, which is a 23 foot wingspan in Marvel Legends scale. To put that in perspective, a standard 4-seater Cessna has a 36 foot wingspan, so this guy’s wings are HUGE!!!

As you would expect with an accessory that comes in 7 pieces, the wings are very well articulated. They were in the movie, so it is only right that they would be in the figure.

You can recreate all of your favorite scenes from the movie, or fold in the wings to make him a little more manageable for a shelf display. Though I think I am going to show him off in all of his spread-wing glory.

I am so happy with this figure, and the wings. I think Hasbro hit it out of the park with their first build-an-accessory. They have shown that this is something they can do to change up the usual BAF, and give us some big alternatives.

Finally the team is all together. 3 movie figures, and 4 comic figures. 3 more Spider-Men for the collection, and some other good additions to the rogue gallery.

Tombstone – Marvel Legends (Vulture Series)

Ugh, the letdown for me of the wave. I am NOT into Tombstone. He is ugly, and he is fairly uninventive. He is a Spider-Man bad guy, so he fits, but this guy really does not bring a lot to the table for me.

On top of that, he is missing one of his boot tops. There are plastic accessories that make up the wrist of the gloves, and the tops of the boots. Hasbro doesn’t even care enough to give this guy proper clothing molds, and one of them isn’t even there. I really don’t care much. It doesn’t really detract from the figure, and I do not care about this guy one bit. He is a means to an end. All I really want is the engine piece for Vulture’s wings. He is going to sit in a dark corner until I need him to come out to be a punching bag for a Spider-Man or two in the future.

Well, one figure left. Vulture. A figure and the necessary part to make the build-an-accessory work. We will see him next…

Captain Universe (Cosmic Spider-Man) – Marvel Legends (Vulture Series)

The Spider-Verse meets the Micro-Verse. Peter Parker was joined with the Uni-Power and given greater power than he had before. The costume he wore was consistent with others who also joined with the Uni-Power, save for the webbing around the mouth area.

This was an easy choice of figures. They used a standard muscular buck and added some heads.

There is a lot of work that went into the paint on this one. Most of the body is white, but the upper part has a lot of added work. The metallic blue is really nicely done. The head sculpt is pretty well done. There is a lot of good details around the eyes.

The second head belongs to Captain Universe. This is more of a generic head that could be anyone. I am going to go with Ray Coffin, who was the first Captain Universe back in 1979 in Micronauts #8.

The final head sure does look like Peter Parker with a beard. I really, really, really like this head sculpt. The hair and beard are great. This head will definitely be making an appearance again soon on some body or another.

This is one of those figures that I didn’t have any clue about. He was a means to an end, so I could collect all of the parts to Vulture’s wings. But along the way, I learned a lot about him, and really like the figure overall.
We are down to our last two figures. One is pretty bad, and one will take the cake. Until next time…

Beetle – Marvel Legends (Vulture Series)

About a year ago to the month we had a Beetle in a Spider-Man themed series of Marvel Legends. Then it was Janice Lincoln. Now it is Abner Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins here is the original Beetle. He made his debut in Strange Tales #123 back in September of 1964. At the time Beetle was wearing a loose fitting suit, and had suction cups on his fingers. He was not the trim man with sleek suit you see here today, though the mask is still right on. Spider-Man enters the scene a year later in 1965 when he and the Human Torch have to team-up to once again send Jenkins back to prison.

What we get in the figure is the much more sophisticated Mark II version of the suit, where Jenkins decides he has to step up his game to take on the likes of Iron Man. He kept the purple and green color scheme for now.

There are two sets of holes in his back. One set is for the shell, and the other is for the wings.

Beetle can just wear the shell, which looks pretty cool, and then the wings can be attached separately.

The wings, which we have seen a few times now, are a great size. Even though they were used on women figures before, they are large enough to work for this Beetle. He has a nice strong stance, so he can support the extra weight on his back, and stay standing.

Janice Lincoln took on the mantle of Beetle in 2010. Her armor is based on the Mark II armor that we have Jenkins wearing.

It is pretty easy to pin down which version she is wearing, since the earlier Mark I was more like a fabric suit, and the later Mark III was more like Hulk-Buster armor.
Jenkins turned his life around and became MACH-I. Lincoln uses her armor for bad guy stuff.

I like this Beetle. He is fun with all of the functioning wings and the fun paint colors. He stands out on the shelf nicely. And he is a good team-up figure for the new Beetle.
