Dinobot Swoop – Transformers: Generations – Power of the Primes (Deluxe Wave 1)

Well, if there is one thing we can be happy about with Swoop, is that he is once again Swoop. He was Ptero and Strafe for a while, but now he has his name back, just in time for his remodel into all of his glorious G1 homage.

The original G1 toy used red heavily in the chest, making him a red and silver bot. But in the show, he had a blue chest. They went with TV accuracy this time around and gave him a blue chest. He is a good looking robot. There are so many small details added to the body and the wings. And his face has a great expression on it.

He comes with a sword that is very reminiscent of his G1 weapon. He is missing the twin missile launchers, but instead comes with Prime Armor. Clearly a hand for the upcoming Volcanicus Combiner, the fists have spikes on the knuckles. This is a matching fist to Slug. He comes with a card where he can team up with Alpha Trion to be able to find the weak point of any enemy. That is a good power to have.

Together with the team so far, he looks really different from the rest of the team with the blue chest. I like that Hasbro went with the cartoon theme, but I think I would have liked it a bit better if the team would have matched. Unfortunately the rest of the team wears red, so Swoop really is the odd man out.

Transforming him into Pteranodon mode is pretty fun. The Pteranodon really reminds me of the G1 figure. I heavy backpack and some nice long wings. The head really makes it, with the clear plastic painted gold on the inside.

His wingspan really is quite something for a Deluxe Class figure. The shape is well done.

The Prime Armor can fit on Swoop’s back. Now the backpack is REALLY tall. Not the best aerodynamics for poor Swoop. He is going to have to work hard to fly around like that.

And the sword can be attached to the chin for a nice menacing attack.

Like all of the Deluxe Class figures, Swoop turns into an arm or a leg. I think it is much trickier to be able to make beast-formers turn into body parts. But this is done well.

I set up Wave 1 with Battle Core Optimus Prime. He was standing around without a team to combine with, so I figured he would be a good stand in while we wait for some Power of the Primes Voyager Class figures. It is exciting to see Swoop and Slug in their Combiner mode body parts. It is a nice sneak peek at what we will get when we finally get to combine all of the Dinobots and form Volcanicus.

Slog – Transformers: Age of Extinction

Well, we continue to get some new Dinobots that never made it into the movie.  This time around we get Slog, a larger Voyager Class figure.  He is very large and in charge.  Strong and bulky with a lot of the medieval armor look that we have seen with the other Dinobots.

Take this knights of ole’.  Slog comes with two lances, and he doesn’t even have a horse to ride.  I like how strong he looks.  Big thick legs, and great armor layered all over.  His face/helmet is really cool with lots of details.  There are a lot of rubber parts on him that could pose problems in the future if they are not taken care of properly.  He is the color I think they should all be.  Some of the other Dinobots are outrageously bright. This grey/black combo with touches of red are really well executed.

I found his transformation to be very difficult, and his chest area when turned into the Apatosaurus would not stay in place.   The directions were to change Slog from the dino into a robot.  So, for the initial transformation, you had to reverse the directions, which is a terrible way to present this anyway.  It will be near impossible for kids to make this transformation on their own.   I also don’t like the giant balls that hang out on the sides of the neck where the lances can be attached.  There is a lot for me not to like in this mode.  I am going to keep him in robot mode from now on.

We might as well take a look at him with his lances and side “guns” attached.   One of the guns on mine is loose, so it will not stay up very well.   The lances coming out at head height is a bit weird visually.

I think he is a good fit with the other T4 Dinobots.  It is funny because his coloring is how I think all of the Dinobots should look, but with him in the grey color, he gets lost in the Skittles of Dinbots.  They should have made him yellow, and then we would have had a complete rainbow of Dinobots.

Transformers: Age of Extinction – Dinobots (Strafe, Scorn, Slug)

Today we are going to look at three of the new Deluxe Class Dinobots.

Strafe –

Strafe is a flyer in his dino-mode.  In robot mode, he continues with the medieval armor appearance.  The two beast heads work in the front to create strong shoulders and a pretty good look.

This Strafe is from the Toys R Us Exclusive that comes with a Mini-Con of the same figure (a redeco of Swoop).  It is the same Strafe figure, but just with a little extra.   There is one other out there as well, I think it might be Slug.

Talk about your epic pose.  I sure hope we get to see Strafe do this in the movie.  How bad-ass does he look with his wings out?  Pretty sweet.  You can really get a sense of the great armor he has.  The gauntlets on his forearms are awesome, as are the very strong looking legs.

And then we get to his dino-mode.  A two-headed pterodactyl.   This once again makes me question the reason to deviate so much from a standard dinosaur.  Ah well.

There is a lot of articulation in the wings that allow for some pretty good poses, instead of having to stick to the strait wings we get a lot of times.

Scorn –

I really like the overall design of Scorn.  His beast mode is pretty fantastic.  From the tall sail, to the long tail, to the head that moves back and forth.

I don’t love it when Transformers only have one usable hand.  I would rather like to see a second hand rather than a tail for a hand, but if you are going to be one hand short, at least his tail is huge and makes for a great weapon.  And what is better than one weapon?  Two weapons.  His tail hides his sword that he can use to make a little extra trouble.

Dinobot Slug –

Who ends up with a name like Slug?  I expect to see this guy sleeping through the whole movie.   He is a pretty good interpretation of a triceratops.  Only a few added parts to give him a little AoE extra.

I think Slug really shines in robot mode.  Strong and powerful is the name of the game.  Two swords wielded in very strong hands.  He looks to be quite a force.

There you have them, the first three Dinobots.  I still haven’t seen any Decepticons.  They have all be Autobot from the get go.  Of course we don’t really know much about the enemy from the trailer.  We know they are coming to eradicate the human race, but who are they?  Guess we will just have to wait and find out.

INCOMING!!!!!!! (New Transformers for you viewing enjoyment)

Are you excited yet?   Guess you need to see the pictures first.  🙂

Hunt Deluxe Wave 6 (Coming December 2010)

A Bumblebee I don’t have.  It was before my collecting time, so I am happy to be seeing them coming out again.  The only time I could get one was in the Bumbleebee three pack with the movie and animated versions I already had.

Perceptor!  Lookin’ old school in his robot form, and a nice vehicle mode for tearing up the turf.   How long until we see a snow bound version with those treads in the back?

A Generation 2 Optimus Prime.  not much to say there.  Have to wait and see when it comes out.

Wreck-Gar, say what?   He is back again.  This time looking like a dirt bike in his vehicle mode.  His robot mode is pretty good looking, having a bit of a mish-mash look.

Generations Deluxe Wave 6 (January 2011)

Cliffjumper in the War for Cybertron version.  With the new Bumblebee that came out, it was only a matter of time until Cliffjumper followed along.

Sergeant Kup.  The old crabby Sergeant is back with a “way too nice looking truck” vehicle mode.

Then we have a couple of jet Decepticons, Thunderwing and Scourge.  Wha?  A flying Decepticon?  Yup.  😉

Voyager Wave 4 (December 2010)

Don’t forget about those Voyager big boys coming out.   Mindwipe has been repainted into Strafe. Nothing like a red and silver paint job to scream stealth.  😉

We will finally get Lugnut in a more realistic version based on his Animated style.   If you have been following my posts, I am kinda’ excited about Lugnut.

Then we have Solar Storm Grapple.  Don’t know what makes him “Solar Storm” but I guess we will have to wait for the packaging story to find out.

Voyager Wave 5 (January 2011)

Wave 5 of the Voyager class is more of the same.   Except this time we get a repaint of Seaspray into a much darker an ominous looking Deep Dive.   It looks like an Aoutbot emblem on his chest, but I doubt he is going to be an Autobot.

I am giddy with excitement for the new stuff coming out.  The Hunt continues.
