Transformers: Generations – Power Of the Primes (Prime Masters Wave 1)

The beginning of the end is upon us. What started back in 2015 with Combiner Wars, is going to conclude with part 3, Power of the Primes. This is going to take all of the gimmicks from the first two waves and combine them into a final run to conclude the trilogy.

These figures are based on the Pretenders of 1988 and 1989. Essentially the same type of figures as back in G1. Low articulated figures with a more articulated Transformer inside. The name given to the Decoy Armor is the name of the original Pretender, with design cues and color schemes that match that figure from G1.

We are going to start small and work our way up. Hopefully as we get bigger, I can find some of the Voyager and Leader class figures. I have plenty to keep me busy until then.

So we are starting with the Prime Masters. These little guys are basically the same small robots as the Titan Masters, but without a face on their back. Instead they have a symbol on their back representing a spark, and a special ability. They are only available in the packs with their Decoy Armor, no longer creating an army of little robots like we saw in the Titans Return line, where everybody came with a Titan Master as well as single packs with vehicles. This will make the Prime Masters much more valuable of a target for the Transformers.

Vector Prime w/ Metalhawk Decoy Armor:

First up is Vector Prime. As with all of the Prime Masters, there is a robot, their Decoy Armor, and a weapon.

The Decoy Armor opens and allows for the Prime Master to hide inside, as well as be able to use the armor as a battle suit. They have accessibility to the weapon to use on their own.

Any of the Prime Masters can ride in any other Decoy Armor.

The Prime Masters are basically the same as the Titan Masters, with a symbol on their back rather than a face. Vector Prime’s power is time travel. I am sure that is a good power to have.

The Decoy Armor transforms into a weapon that a Deluxe, Voyager or Leader Class figure can use. Since I am starting small, I grabbed a Titans Return figure or Orion Pax to show off the weapon. The Prime Master becomes a part of the weapon, and can be switched with any other Prime Master to mix and match weapons and powers.

Micronus w/ Cloudburst Decoy Armor:

Another Autobot in the first wave, this time Micronus. He comes with Cloudburst Decoy Armor and a double gatling gun.

It is really fun that there is actually space in the head to allow the Prime Master inside to see out, as if it really is a suit of armor.

Micronus’ ability is Power Swap. How this will come into play is very exciting.

Liege Maximo w/ Skullgrin Decoy Armor:

We saw Skullgrin last back in 2010, when he was made in to a Deluxe scale tank. But he is back now as the Decoy Armor for Micronus.

Micronus come with the power of Trickster. Oh, I am sure that is going to be an intersting power.

The weapon that Skullgrin comes with is a 3-bladed melee weapon. Not really all that useful.

And when put in the hands of a Deluxe scale figure… still not that useful.

There we have the first three figures of the Powers of the Prime line. 2 Autobots and 1 Decepticon. The playability is not too high yet, but as we introduce larger scale figures, they playability and the alternate modes of the Prime Masters will come into play.

As you can see, these new guys are just the same as the Titan Masters. That means they are interchangeable to ride in each other’s vehicles, like the discussion going on here with Loudmouth.

And I am sure someone is wondering, as I was. Yes, the Prime Master can take the place of a Titan Master using the neck port. But no, it does not look good.

As usual, more pictures can be found on my Flickr Account.  Link on the side menu—>

Stay tuned. We will take a look at the slightly larger Legends Class next.

Clobber and Skytread – Conclusion of Wave 2 of Titans Return Titan Masters

It was strangely hard to get my hands on the last two figures in wave 2 of the Titan Masters in the Titans Return series.   I did however find them, and then they slipped through the cracks and hid away for a while.  But they are out and they are ready to join their wave.

Clobber:

Clobber’s vehicle/weapon is a repaint of Crashbash’s, as well as Clobber’s robot body.

The T-Rex is a new color scheme going with yellow and grey. Hey, do you know of another gold and grey T-Rex? I bet you do. Just wait, the surprise is coming.

First we have to look at the rest of the modes. The vehicle transforms into a dragon. Ugh! Not this guy again! That is not a great mode for this guy. It is a bit forced. Especially to have Clobber stand on his back like this. Last time for this mode.

Then there is the weapon. Basically the T-Rex laying down with a handle on his back. It works fine, and I do not suspect you would make a much better weapon from a robot T-Rex.

Now for the surprise:

Yup, that is in fact Grimlock. Now, why did they call him “Clobber” rather than Grimlock? The running theory is that Grimlock is already working hard in the Robots in Disguise show and toy line, so Hasbro went with a different named character. I don’t get it, but whatever. His head looks great!!!

Skytread:

Skytread is a retool of Terri-Bull that we saw back in wave 1. He is a rename of the figure Flywheels from way back in 1987. Flywheels was able to separate into a tank and a jet, so that makes sense with this figure and vehicle combo. Plus the color scheme matches fairly well, though Flywheel was more burgundy, and not so much pink.

In tank mode, Skytread gets to ride up top and control the 4 cannons that can move in their separate pairs.

Flip it over and spin it around, open some wings, and Skytread is flying high in jet mode.

The colors on Skytread are a bit off. It was really hard to try and photograph, but the pinks do not match up well at all.

The jet is the basis for the gun mode, where basically the wings fold in and you have a gun, 4 barrels underneath and the nose of the plane for a 5th barrel.

I don’t know if I would say this is Flywheel’s head. It looks a bit on the generic side to me. I am definitely not an expert on Flywheel, and most of the pictures I have seen are not really that great.

A couple of retools for the second part of this wave.   They are good figures and fine heads.   They are welcome to my team.

Loudmouth – Transformers: Generations – Titan Master

Tonight we are taking a look at the fourth and final Titan Master of wave 1, Loudmouth.  He is totally an Autobot. The red and grey scream Autobot. That and he looks like a nice guy.

He comes with a little convertible hover car that looks like it is right out of Star Wars. Loudmouth sits in the cockpit as he should.

Flip the car over, move around the red parts, and throw Loudmouth in there head down, and you have some sort of tank. It is quite a change from the car in the first mode.

A few adjustments more, and the tank becomes a weapon. It is pretty much the tank with the side skirts flipped out.

And of course he becomes a head. He is a really well done head. He has a red visor and metallic blue sides to his face.  This time around, the head of Blurr did not work in place of Loudmouth. Hyperfire gives Blurr his trademark air vent on the head. That air vent hinders what Hyperfire can be attached to when he is all folded up.

Boy, this is going to be the tiniest little war ever.  Titan Master against Titan Master.   Pew! Pew! Pew!

Even Wheelie looks gigantic around these guys.

Let’s not forget that the Legends Class figures were specifically made to work with the Titan Masters. Only Wheelie, so far, allows a Titan Master a comfortable ride. The rest of the Legends Class has ports for the Titan Masters to stand on their backs or somewhere else. We will see in future waves if we will see any other support vehicles that the Titan Masters can ride in.

That’s it for the Titan Masters Wave 1. These guys are so much fun. I am looking forward to Wave 2. For now, we are on to bigger things. That isn’t hard to do. Maybe we will take a walk away from the Transformers for a day or two and look at some of the other figures that have been lining up for their turn.
