And Buzz Lightyear makes 3

I happened to a Disney Store in San Francisco a few weekends ago, and they were all set of the holidays. They were filled to the brim with all of the different Toybox series (Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars). I decided to start by finishing my collection of Pixar with Buzz Lightyear.

This is a great looking figure. He is not too far off from his movie version. He was fairly exaggerated in his original design, so it was not a stretch to make him into this Infinity style.

His accessory is his jetpack. Not what most would think of as an accessory, but it is quite a cool piece.

There are wings that fold out in either side. The movement is quite nice and fluid.

Take off the pack, and he has his batteries tucked in back there. He also has the switch. Oh how I loved Spanish speaking Buzz in the movie.

On the back of the jetpack, there is a flip out clip. There is no mention of this feature or what it is used for. I figure it turns the jetpack into a shield, as it fits well on his arm. I tried to put it on Woody and Jessie to see if it would work as a jetpack for them (like the wearable jetpack in the Infinity game), but the clip was too big.

Buzz comes with a lot of motion, as all three of the figure do. But Buzz had a head tilt that allows him to look up, like when he is flying. A nice touch.

This is another great figure in the line. I am excited about getting my hands on the other figures in the other Toybox lines as well as seeing what will be coming out in the future series.

Disney Pixar Toybox – Woody and Jessie

In an effort to always take more of our money, Disney went about and found a new toy line to create. Based around the Infinity game that has been canceled, Disney make action figures based on the cartoon style of the statues. I am not much of a statue collector, but I have always admired the design work of the statues. So, for Disney to come out with new figures based on those designs is pretty cool.

I happened down to my local Disney Store this morning looking for something else, but Jessie and Woody caught my eye. On the box they are #2 and #3. That could only mean one thing… #1 was Buzz Lightyear. A quick check of the back confirmed that for me. Unfortunately there was no Buzz in the store.

I didn’t know anything else about them, other than this says “Pixar Series.” That meant there was a good chance that there would be other figures from other series. None were in the store, but I would find about about that later.

So, finally I got home and busted these two out. They are fantastic. Lots of good articulation, all the way down to double joints in the wrists and ankles. They both have removable hats, and one extra accessory. Woody has a snake in the boot. Push the button and the snake shakes around. Jessie has a lasso.

The details in the outfits are fantastic. Big oversized stitching as well as big buttons. They have flattened legs, like they do in the movies, and drawstring loops on their backs. Just fantastic.

At the bottom of the packaging, there is a Toybox pamphlet. It shows all of the figures out so far. Along with the 3 Pixar figures out, it looks like they are planning for 4 more, 3 men and a woman. There are also Star Wars Toybox figures. Kylo Ren, Rey, and a First Order Stormtrooper. They also have 3 more in the pipeline, 2 men and a woman. And finally, there is the Marvel Toybox. The first 4 figures are Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man and Iron Man. They are planning on 2 more women and a man in a future wave.

I consider this one of the joys of the Disney takeover of the world. We start to get some interesting figures like this, and they can be mixed and matched between lines. These figures are only available at the Disney Store, so get in there, or get them online. You will not be disappointed.

Gamora with Rocket (Marvel Select Disney Store Exc)

I absolutely love this version of Gamora. I was bummed it was not coming out in any form in the Marvel Legends line, but I was happy that it was coming out in Marvel Select. In the last few years, Marvel Select figures have gotten the full articulation treatment. In the past, they were limited, being over glorified statues. Not any more.

Gamora comes with Rocket in this set. You can also get Star-Lord, Drax, and Groot to fill out this team if you would like. They run a little higher, $24.99 for each figure.

There are a lot of accessories. Rocket comes with 4 guns of varying sizes, while Gamora comes with 3 guns, two blades, and 4 additional hads. They also come with a base that can attach to the rest of the team.

There is really good movement in both figures. Rocket does well holding both his big and small guns. His tail helps him out a lot.

I really like the size comparison of the two. Rocket is small, but very dangerous looking.

Gamora has great articulation. She is able to hold her rifle with two hands, and can have very dynamic stances.

The sword is gigantic. It is long and imposing, just as it should be.

Though she comes with so many weapons, she has no way of carrying any of them, which is sad. It would have been nice to have seen a few holsters, or sheaths. Oh well, you don’t want to mess with that fantastic outfit of hers.

And when all else fails, she can punch her way out of the situation, which I am sure she has no problem doing.

I have assembled my Guardians team. This version of Gamora and Rocket, teamed up with movie Star-Lord and Groot, and comics Drax. That is the team I choose to guard my galaxy.
