Deadpool – Back in Black – Marvel Legends GameStop Exclusive

In late 2016 and early 2017, Marvel had the brainchild to take us back to the 80s. We join Peter Parker as he finally gets rid of the alien symbiote that will one day become Venom. But before that happens, the symbiote goes on an adventure with none other than Deadpool. You know nobody would be able to hang with that crazy dude for long. Well, five issues in this mini-series is all the future Venom could take. Back in Black is of course a reference to AC/DC’s album by the same name, released in 1980. The issue doesn’t scream over the top 80s references like I thought it would, but with the non-stop action over 5 issues, there isn’t really time to stop and take in the nostalgia.

Flash forward to the end of 2017, and we have a figure in hand of that very same Deadpool. He comes with a good number of accessories. None of them are new, but they are still cool none-the-less. He comes equipped with a grasping hand and a web-slinging hand. I was surprised that he really took on the persona of Spider-Man a lot in the book, and actually flew around with webs. He also comes with Toxin’s clawed hands, as well as one more grasping hand. He comes with the back arms that came with Space Venom, since he needs them for a classic scene from the book. In the book he gets a little crazy and fangs show up. We get that in a repaint of Superior Venom’s head. And then we get some weapons too. Deadpool’s own katana swords in a transparent pink to represent the swords he stole off an alien. He didn’t use them for long, but that was a fun scene.

Teamed up with his modern self, the Deadpool of ole didn’t wear all of the gear he does now. It was a simpler time, so his Black Suit is less detailed with guns and pouches and the rest. Pretty much as it was in the comic.

Throw on the backpack for some straight-out-of-the-comics fun with swords. Unfortunately the symbiote arms were made for Space Venom and holding hand guns. The swords are not held in place very strong. One side can hold a blade pretty well, but the other side is just placed there.

When the going get’s tough, Deadpool gets crazy. He showed some of the future Venom look with sharp fangs and claws. He grew in size too, but you cannot represent that in a single toy. I have one problem with the right hand on mine. It is extremely loose. When I put the hand in, it tends to flop around. The grasping hand even falls out when just standing there. I am going to have to work on getting that a bit tighter. Anyone have a good way of going about that, I am all ears.

By the time Deadpool was done, he realized that the symbiote was trying to take over his mind. Not happy about that, he was able to get rid of the alien. But then it wanted to hook up with Peter again. Deadpool said, “If you want him, you have to go through me.” Not happy about having to deal with Deadpool and his crazy mind again, it decided to go hunting for a new host. And the rest of the story is history…

This is a fine figure. Only two problems, holding the swords with the extra appendages, and a loose hand socket. The paint is pretty solid. I have heard of some problems with paint on the figures people have found in the store. Since I got mine online, I never got a choice. Thankfully mine came in good shape. This is a fun figure to go along with a richer history being filled in for Venom, Spider-Man, and of course, Deadpool. If you happen by a GameStop and are a fan of Marvel Legends, Deadpool, or Spider-Man, this is a figure to get.

Juggernaut – BAF – Juggernaut Series

And we close out this series with a big ol’ bad guy. The one and only Juggernaut, also known as Cain Marko. He is the original unstoppable force, and he is a big guy.

Juggernaut has some pretty good sculpting on his body. Most of it is just muscle, but there are some veins in his arms. His boots are really well done. The most detail went into his face and helmet. You would expect for a guy who goes into battle head-first, he would have a pretty banged up helmet. And he does. The real shining light is the face sculpt that is hidden under the helmet. We get a fair amount of the face, showing through the holes. It is so well done, down to a chipped tooth.

Compared to the rest of the figures, he is a head and shoulders taller, and twice as wide. These are my favorite BAF figures. We get the bigger than life guys that cannot be sold as individual figures. They work so well, and end up being so much fun.  They tend to have a little less articulation than the other figures, but real big guys tend to be a little less flexible than the average guy too. So nothing lost.

This was a mixed bag of a series, with some of the best figures we have seen, and a few that are less than desirable. But once they are put together for the final team picture, there is no doubt that this is a great team.

Deadpool – Marvel Legends – Juggernaut Series

Deadpool. One crazy guy, that made a huge splash outside of the comic world with a movie that was a huge success. People in the know have loved Deadpool for years. For me, he was in and out of comics that I read. I knew who he was. I knew he had a loud mouth and great jokes that could rival Spider-Man. It wasn’t until more recently that I started to get the collected volumes to really delve into the character. And boy does this not disappoint.

Now we have the figure. Part of the X-Men series, since he wants to be an X-Men over almost anything else. What do we get with this figure? First and foremost, we get a fantastic figure. We get some nice new body parts. The forearms and the shins are both covered in armor. He has a great head sculpt that gives a wonderful expression. And he comes with a few costume accessories that really add to the outfit, including the belt, shoulder holster for his katana blades, and leg holster for his gun. So, with such a great figure, how can we top that? Add in more accessories than I have ever seen come with one figure, and more than some waves have had over all of the figures combined. Let’s take a look at what we get.

First off, a knife. I am sure if Deadpool is using a knife, he is out of options… like cutting off his own hand to get away. There is a sheath along the outside of his left leg to keep it nice and close by.

Next up is a pair of guns. They look like they are Desert Eagles. A little small if they are, but fairly well done. They both have a holster, one on the hip, and one on the thigh. Yay for storage for your guns!!!!

Next up, the pair of Katana blades. Can’t be Deadpool with out going into a gun fight wielding a pair of swords. They look great. They were nice and straight out of the box, and fit nicely into the sheaths running down his back.

Then we get a little crazy. A rocket launcher with punching fist. This is the same rocket launcher we got with The Punisher, but without the boxing glove. Thankfully, if you want a more serious tone, the boxing glove is removable. The rocket launcher pegs into the hole in his back.

We get a couple of extra weapons. One is a repaint of the shotgun that came with The Punisher. This time around, it is a much better silver color. The other gun is a futuristic rifle. It makes me think of the Kree storyline where Deadpool was pretending to work with them while he was actually working on destroying them.  These guns are extra, and do not have a place to be stored on Deadpool.  I am thinking some straps need to be added, because Deadpool needs to go into battle with every weapon that is not tied down.

Finally we get an alternate head. We need an unmasked head, because how else is he going to eat that taco he also comes with? The head looks horribly great. He is no doubt a burn victim of some sort. The smile is well done, and shows he cannot be kept down by that ugly face.

This figure is great. No wonder it took me so long to get my hands on. Everyone and their brother wanted this figure. It was an additional figure to the wave, so it did not come with a BAF part. Instead they filled every part of the box with some kind of death instrument. What fun!!!

Quick Pics: Marvel Vs Capcom MiniMates

Today are some quick pics of the Marvel Vs Capcom line of MiniMates.   There are a LOT of accessories that go along with the figures.  Some stands, and more extra weapons than these guys know what to do with.   Stand out favorites are Deadpool and Dante.   Both are really well done.  I am a little bummed that Deadpool does not come with the straps to hold his swords, nor holsters for his guns.  Ah well, can’t have everything.  At least we get a great looking Super Weapon for Iron Man.
