Original Purple Ranger – Power Rangers Dino Super Charge – Bandai

I really have to hand it to Bandai America. We ended up with something like 62 base figures for over the Dino Charge and Dino Super Charge series (not including the special pearl color variants of the original figures). They did a good job of covering a whole bunch of bad guys (19 in all), and every variation of the Rangers they came in. But I did not think we would see the Original Purple Ranger be added to the set.

It was right at the end, tooling was coming to a close. The stores are moving on to get ready for Christmas sales, so they want the new stuff (Ninja Steel), so it is hard to get some of the last stuff to come out. Thankfully I was able to find Albert Smith in the store, to complete my Purple Rangers. Most of the other Rangers came in the flavors of Charge, Steel, Drive, and Super Drive. Kendall Morgan only changed from Charge to Drive and Super Drive. She never had a Steel configuration for her suit. So, to get us that fourth version, they went with the male version.

This Ranger was only a Ranger for one episode, World Famous! (in New Zealand). He is also the oldest person to portrait a Power Ranger, the actor being 67 years old. He was not the best Ranger, starting off fighting street crime, and ultimately giving up his powers because he was afraid. That is not a great start to the Purple Ranger legacy, but the powers were passed on to Kendall, who wore the color much better, and had a better run as a Ranger.

It is always fun when something like this comes out. It is such a small part of the history of the Power Rangers, but an odd little piece of history none the less. I am really glad Bandai America went ahead and made it.
