Abomination Wave – Captain America – Marvel Legends

What a strange collection of figures for a wave. We have a movie character, comic characters and a cartoon character. That is a lot of different genres to pull from. They seems to be very loosely based around Captain America… for the most part, but not really for the Build a Figure. Abomination is definitely a Hulk bad guy that I don’t know that I can relate to Cap in any way.

First off we have Scarlet Witch. This is an easy one. Civil War come to life. She looks great, and is a much needed member of the team. Probably the only figure in this wave that people really wanted to go after. Many of the others are repaints, but this one is special. She has the realistic clothing and face that we see on the other movie figures. She comes with some flame effects for her hands. The best of the wave for sure.

Next up is Secret War Captain America. Ah, Secret War. Just a reason to repaint Ole Steve Rogers here for another figure. We have to have about a million Captain Americas now. We can start a Super Soldier army with all of them, I am pretty sure. This Cap is not very happy. He is looking quite perturbed.

He comes with a throwing hand that is throwing his shield. It is a fun gimmick. The shield can be removed and attached to his arm, or pegged into his back.

Captain Britain. I guess he is a captain, so that relates him to Captain America? I am glad to get a new version of Captain Britain, since I love me some Excalibur, and the last figure was not great looking. This one is pretty tough. His helmet is really cool, and he looks like a brawler.

Eel. Ah, yes. Another excuse for a repaint. Technically, Eel worked with Red Skull, and did get defeated by Captain America, so there is a connection there. This is really just a total reuse of Blizzard with a new paint scheme and some Electro hands thrown in. There is not a lot going on here. Most people will want to skip this one.

Wonder Man. Well, he is Wonder Man. The most boring superhero ever. Ugh. He was a agent of SHIELD, and an Avenger, so I guess there is a Cap connection, but it is pretty thin.

Iron Skull. Now we are talking. Someone totally related to Captain America. And in a new outfit that is really cool. Red Skull is dying in the cartoon Avengers Assemble, so he takes Iron Man’s suit and becomes Iron Skull. That is a great premise. And the figure is fantastic. This is the head of Red Skull we have seen before. It is repainted better than we got back with The First Avenger Red Skull.

He comes with a standard Iron Man Suit, but it is molded in black with some glitter. He comes with a repainted Iron Man helmet that has a red skull painted on it. The dark armor and the eerie red skull helmet work so well together and really creates a great badguy.

Finally there is the BAF of Abomination. I could not find a connection to Captain America for this guy. I know he is really closely related to Hulk, but not Cap. Well, either way, we get 6 parts to put him together.

The paint is really well done. There sculpt overall is really well done too. He has a good head sculpt with the big ear-wings. He looks like he is armor plated all over. I think his legs seem slightly short to me.

There are some issues with how he is constructed. There are some plastic and rubber parts that are attached together, mostly around the shoulders and back. The two parts did not adhere very well, and there is a major seam that runs all around his body.

Overall, this is a weird set of figures. I only wanted 3 of the figures, Scarlet Witch, Iron Skull, and Captain Britain. Some people may want even less than that. Other than getting Scarlet Witch for their Civil War team, there is no one here that is really that great and needs to be collected. Keep an eye on Amazon for the price to bottom out on the majority of these figures. All of them are now sitting at $12.98, with the exception of Scarlet Witch that stayed up in price, for good reason. I never saw this wave in the store, and I am glad I didn’t. It saved me money hunting them down on Amazon later.
