Yet another Combiner has come to exist at my house. Defensor was a bit harder to get a hold of than the other figures that have come out previously. I think the market has been a bit saturated in the Combiner Wars line, and we are seeing a lot of the previous figures start to warm the pegs. I found three of the 5 figures in the store, while I picked up the other two off of good deals on Amazon. The first figure I found in this wave was Streetwise, who I already reviewed here. Today we are going to look at the next two figures in the wave, First Aid, and Blades.
I like the look of the robot mode of First Aid. They made the Defensor attachment post the same color as the rest of his chest, so it doesn’t stand out quite as much as some of the other Combiner figures.
He is his standard red and white, very similar to his G1 version. He is also a thin character just like his G1 counterpart.
He has a good range of motion. He has very long knee pads that go well over his knees. His thin arms are able to move all over the place. They clip into place in a few areas on the vehicle greeble on his shoulders. All of that can be moved around quite freely.
He is a very sleek looking SUV. There is a port on the top to hold the cannon/hand, and posts on the sides where you can post the hatchet. I would have liked to see a different weapon than a hatchet. It makes sense with someone like Offroad, but not so much with someone who is supposed to care for others.
Blades is a redeco of Alpha Bravo with a new head. I don’t think this is going to be anyone’s favorite Defensor character. In robot mode, He is a fairly competent robot. He has all of the right articulation, and comes with two weapons. His back is a bit full of helicopter parts. From the tail sticking over his head, to the rotors folded up near his bum. The rotors easily fall to the sides, and it would have been such a better figure if the rotors locked into position.
As a helicopter, he loos good. He looks like he should be flying along the coast looking for people to save… if it weren’t for the giant array of missiles hanging off of each side of the body. Now, Blades is known as a bad boy, and this would back up that position of wreaking havoc on every Decepticon in his path. But, he is a Transformer, and the hide in plain sight, it would be better if he didn’t have the missiles.
Next time we will take a look at the other two, to round out the 5 figures, and take a look at Defensor himself. Oh what fun we are having with the Combiner Wars.
