Everything old is new again…again. Over at Toys News International, they were lucky enough to make it to Toy Fair. One of the places they stopped was at the Playmates booth where they got an indepth look at the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming out this fall.
It has been 28 years since the creation of TMNT by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, and 25 years since Playmates got their hands on the rights for the figures, looking to boost their action figure lines.
What we are getting this time around looks to be the best articulated and best detailed figures of the fighting turtles ever.
Head to Toy News International for their coverage of Toy Fair and a video of a first look at a figure. I was not too excited when I heard about the next incarnation of the turtles, but now they are definitely on my must-have list for this fall.
Over on Captain Toy, Michael Crawford has done a two part review for the newest Marvel Legends wave featuring the BAF for Terrax.
This wave includes: Thor, Klaw, Hope Summers, Constrictor, Steve Rogers, Iron Man Extremis, Ghost Rider, Terrax
For a full review by Michael, check out the two parts: Part 1, and Part 2.
Michael gave all of the figures between 3 and 3 1/2 stars, which is a really good score for an entire wave. From what I have seen of his pictures, it appears that Hasbro has taken better care when creating characters. They took over the Marvel Legends line a few years back, and basically drove it into the ground in what looked like riding the coat tails of success with an emphasis on ‘suck’.
Poor paint that looked unfinished and blotchy, bad sculpts including mannish women. It looks like they are coming back with a renewed vigor. There appear to be quite a few variants out there this time around. Some are a little strange… like the orange flame Ghost Rider being the variant this time around.
Looks like I am going to have to go on a new hunt. Thank goodness WonderCon is only a few weeks away.
