DC Wins Again!

Now, I am not just a fan of DC.   My first foray into the world of comics was courtesy of the fine folks at Marvel.   To be more precise, it was an issue of Excalibur, right in the middle of the Cross-Time Caper.  My heart was forever going to be Kitty Pride’s.

Here we are 20 some odd years later and I am still a fan of Marvel, but why can’t the toys and statues translate the same?

If you have ever read my blog, you would know I am a HUGE fan of the Ame-Comi line.  I have nearly all of them, with only a few not catching my interest.    On the other side was the attempt at Marvel to make their versions called: Bishoujo Statue by Kotobukiya.

At first they came out with Phoenix and Emma Frost:

These statues are well made and look okay, but there was something that was not there for me.  I can’t really put my finger on what it was that was different from these than the Ame-Comi, they did not interest me… That is until last Friday.

On my way home I stopped by my favorite action figure and statue store and they had a new Bishoujo of Batgirl.   Now Batgirl is right up there for me with Kitty Pride.  Can’t beat a good Batgirl.   Well, this one was a winner.

Stay tuned for a review of this statue.  She is amazingly well made, and the sculpting might be the best I have ever seen.   I got some new lighting for picture taking, so even more of the beauty will shine.

After seeing this figure, I am really excited for the next, Catwoman.

With how good the shiny parts of Batgirl turned out, Catwoman’s outfit is going to be out of this world.

Ame-Comi: Star Sapphire

The Green Lanterns are making quite a splash as of late.  The other colors have been making quite a showing as well.   Maybe none show as much as Star Sapphire.  🙂

With nine previous Ame-Comi in my collection, I think I am a true collector of the line.  I don’t have them all, and at $60 a pop, I have to be selective.

If you read my previous post, you will see that I had to do a bit of tweaking with the base to get the post in the bottom of SS foot to go in the crystal on the base.

Star Sapphire is using her powers to make a cute little heart.  They gave her sultry eyes and pouty lips.

It was an interesting choice of a costume.  Very similar to her comic outfit, she has a bit of a Witchblade look to her.

Little stars and jewel shapes adorn her outfit all over.  A very literal translation of Star Sapphire.

She also has a visor that can be attached.  Seeing the world through rose-colored glasses?

In all, an okay figure.   Not the best in the Ame-Comi line.  Coming next I will be reviewing Jade, another Lantern, and a better statue, possibly one of the best in the line.

New Reviews on their way

I have done my photo shoot on two of the newer Ame-Comi, Jade and Star Sapphire.  These are two nice figures, one better than the other, but more on that when I post the reviews.   For now, let me tease you with this:

Yup, that is a power tool laying on my desk with a $60 statue.  Not my idea of a good time, but don’t worry, it was a successful surgery.

DC Universe Classics: Wave 8, Mr. Terrific

I think I am a glutton for punishment.  I found Mr. Terrific after Christmas, while I was looking around for something good.   I love the rest of the wave and am still hoping to get the last pieces of Giganta.  If you have been collecting the DCUC waves, you will know that Mattel really messed us up by under producing Gentleman ghost and therefore limiting us on the number of Giganta heads and lower torsos.  So, for now I have the upper torso, both arms and both legs.   Can’t attach the legs without the lower torso.

Anyway, I really like Mr. Terrific.  He is very uniquely interesting as a figure, with good coloring, sharp paint apps, and really nice floating spheres.

Now, THAT is a lot of leg.   Too bad I can’t get all of her.  I will keep trying though.

Cliffjumper: Better name but still the same figure

The Generations versions of Cliffjumper based on the War for Cybertron is just like every other version of Cliffjumper, a red version of Bumblebee.

These are very well done robot modes.  They look good, have good motion and flexibility, and stand sturdy.  Also coming with a handgun and flip-out blades, the variation, like with most similar body typed Transformers is the head.

They look great together, playing off of the other’s colors with some other slight color changes in the details.

Another bubble car.  They are both really hard to get closed up.  They almost spring apart, and it is really hard to get put together so there are not gaps in the body lines.  As you can see, there are gaps in both.

I had a problem with Cliffjumper where his back wheels were very loose and wiggled.  The back wheels are luckily held on with a screw, so I was able to tighten them both up and all is well.

If you like this version of Bumblebee, then you will like Cliffjumper since he is virtually the same.
