Transformers: Generations – Power Of the Primes (Legends Class Wave 1)

Today we are going to take a look at the first wave of the slightly larger Legends Class figures. There are 4 in all. Windcharger, Beachcomber, Slash, and Skrapnel. The first three are new, while Skrapnel is a minor repaint from Titans Return, so I passed on him. But the other three, ironically enough all Autobots, are new and ready for show.

Windcharger:

Based on a pretty good likeness of his G1 version, Windcharger is back. We saw him at the beginning of the Prime Wars Trilogy in Combiner Wars, where he was still small, but not an actual combiner. He was an original member of the Ark crew that crash landed on Earth in the G1 cartoon, and a figure that came out in the first year of the Transformers toy line, so it is a great place to start.

He has the same block head look that he had in the G1 cartoon. He is updated with a bit of a size increase as well as really good articulation.

As you can see, he is about half the size of a Deluxe figure, which fits in well with the overall design of the G1 feel. He was small then, and he is small now.

The transformation of these Legends is pretty intricate. They have improved over the past two years of the Prime Wars Trilogy. And if history is any indication, the first Windcharger from 2015 was made into Tailgate, just like the 1984 version. And since history has a way of repeating itself, we will see him redecoed into Tailgate once more later in this line. And that is fine with me. This is a very nice car.

And along with the introduction of Titan Masters, we got Legends Class figures that can allow for drivers. The trend continues, and the proportions with the Prime Masters continues.  The top of Windcharger peels back to allow any Prime Master ti fit inside. A ride is the only way for Prime Masters and Legends Class figures to interact with one another, unlike with the rest of the sizes of figures.

Beachcomber:

An Autobot that showed up one day and stayed on the team back in G1. Today Beachcomber is again recreated to help any way he can. Digging holes and the like for this geologist.

The detail work that went into him is amazing. The designers looked at lines and markings and translated them into some amazing molding work. His chest is fantastic, and there are a lot of tiny touches that really make him stand out.

He transforms into a dune buggy with some pretty nifty transformations. The roll cage is actually three separate parts that fold out and connect as the buggy comes together. That keeps from being a big roll cage from hanging off his back or something.

There is a giant, funny-looking hole in the back of his body. This is where his head tucks as he is transformed. It is so strange to have designer go to so much work to add so many details, but not have some sort of door that closes on the back part of the car.

As with Windcharger, Beachcomber can accept one Master to drive inside. A much windier ride, but I am sure fun nonetheless.

Slash:

Slash is new to the G1 continuity. Originally Slash was supposed to be in the Age of Extinction movie along with the rest of the Dinbots, but it was not meant to be. There was a toy made in the Deluxe Class, and made a return in the The Last Knight line earlier this year.

Well, ‘he’ became a ‘she’, and she is a good looking bot in the color scheme of the rest of the Dinobots. She is their scout, and that works well in this smaller scale, as we have had many type scouts in the Legends Class.  This is a very slender figure compared to the other two Autobot Legends we got in Wave 1.

Her transformation is that of a Velociraptor, and it is awesome. She has the correct coloring, with the red/black/silver/gold color scheme. She even has the clear head with gold inside to better match her team. The rest of the Dinobots will be able to combine to form Volcanicus, but Slash sadly will not be a part of that. She will however be able to continue to be their scout.

And yes, she has a seat. A door in her back opens and allows a Prime Master to sit in/on her.

Each of the Legends comes with a collectible card. It is the name of a Prime Master along with their name, and their capabilities. So far, we only have Vector Prime to see how this works. Vector Prime’s logo is in the middle picture, and it says “Time travels to prevent extinction-level events.” That is very fitting for a time traveling Prime Master, and a geologist. But we don’t know how it all works. Do they time travel when Vector Prime is riding in the vehicle mode of Beachcomber? Or are they linked? I would love a bit more background on this one.

I am very happy with the Legends Class figures so far. They are a whole lot of fun to transform, and they look very G1 with a nice update to 2018. I am very excited to move onto the Deluxe Class figures while I keep my eyes out for the larger Class figures.

Slog – Transformers: Age of Extinction

Well, we continue to get some new Dinobots that never made it into the movie.  This time around we get Slog, a larger Voyager Class figure.  He is very large and in charge.  Strong and bulky with a lot of the medieval armor look that we have seen with the other Dinobots.

Take this knights of ole’.  Slog comes with two lances, and he doesn’t even have a horse to ride.  I like how strong he looks.  Big thick legs, and great armor layered all over.  His face/helmet is really cool with lots of details.  There are a lot of rubber parts on him that could pose problems in the future if they are not taken care of properly.  He is the color I think they should all be.  Some of the other Dinobots are outrageously bright. This grey/black combo with touches of red are really well executed.

I found his transformation to be very difficult, and his chest area when turned into the Apatosaurus would not stay in place.   The directions were to change Slog from the dino into a robot.  So, for the initial transformation, you had to reverse the directions, which is a terrible way to present this anyway.  It will be near impossible for kids to make this transformation on their own.   I also don’t like the giant balls that hang out on the sides of the neck where the lances can be attached.  There is a lot for me not to like in this mode.  I am going to keep him in robot mode from now on.

We might as well take a look at him with his lances and side “guns” attached.   One of the guns on mine is loose, so it will not stay up very well.   The lances coming out at head height is a bit weird visually.

I think he is a good fit with the other T4 Dinobots.  It is funny because his coloring is how I think all of the Dinobots should look, but with him in the grey color, he gets lost in the Skittles of Dinbots.  They should have made him yellow, and then we would have had a complete rainbow of Dinobots.
